Outreach Committee

There are many possibilities available for people—no matter their age, interests or talents—to share their time for others. The committee typically meets bi-monthly and, among others, supports the following endeavours:

Wednesdays at Wilmot

From September to June, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, an outreach opportunity is presented to individuals who may need a listening ear, information, lunch, food vouchers, bus tickets and haircuts. UNB nursing and law students are often available to answer questions. Outreach welcomes donation of cookies, baking, non-perishable foods and financial support to the Benevolent Fund from which food gift cards are purchased. Four volunteer teams of 8-10 people (many of whom are non-Wilmoters) ensure this program happens.

Donations of food/personal supplies

Donations of food and personal supplies are used by the Wednesdays at Wilmot program. Non-perishable food, mittens, socks, and personal hygiene items may be dropped off at the church during office hours or on Sundays. Seasonal or event-specific needs are shared via the weekly announcements.

Saturday Evening Drop-In

From September until June, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, the Saturday Evening Drop-In offers a place to socialize, play cards or pool as well as other activities in an atmosphere of friendship. Food provided by the Abbey Cafe as well as snacks are enjoyed. Volunteer teams rotate over a 4 - 5-week period, being responsible for set up, serving, socializing with guests and clean up. Many of the volunteers provide soup, baking and other snacks to enhance the light evening meal.

Fair Trade cupboard

Coffee, tea, chocolate, olive oil that are Fair Trade Certified are available during Coffee & Conversation and at other gatherings. Wilmot is committed to using Fair Trade Coffee specifically the Breaking the Silence blend, which is produced from a coffee co-operative in Guatemala. The extra virgin olive oil is from Palestine. Our goal is to promote and distribute fair trade products which puts more profit into the hands of the producers.

soup's on!

Several times during the year, the committee prepares and serves a soup luncheon to the congregation after church. Funds raised support Wilmot’s Outreach projects or other designated needs. Watch for upcoming dates in the Wilmot weekly announcements.

ACCESS TO JUSTICE

We educate ourselves and often express our concerns on Access to Justice issues for those without sufficient economic means to bring their needs to government.
